Can I exercise with minoxidil?

A large amount of folks who are suffering from hair loss use minoxidil to combat male or female pattern hair loss.

But since modern society focuses a lot on fitness and longevity, it’s no wonder that the question, ‘can I exercise with minoxidil or not’ pops up from time to time.

Luckily enough, you can use minoxidil before a workout! Let me explain how and why.

Can I exercise with minoxidil or not?

Yes, you can exercise with minoxidil. It is considered safe to train with minoxidil in your hair/on your scalp, even if you were to apply it right before working out.

Nevertheless, it’s advised to wait for 30 minutes after applying minoxidil to your scalp, or beard if you use it to grow facial hair before working out. This gives your skin ample time to absorb most of the minoxidil without the risk of dilution or getting washed off.

The reason for this recommendation is that exercising causes your body temperature to increase, which will typically result in sweating.

If you start sweating right after applying minoxidil, then the product will become diluted, which will make it harder to absorb the nutrients. Even worse is that it’s possible that the products gets washed off partially or completely if you sweat abundantly.

Thus, it’s best not to exercise straight after putting on minoxidil. Besides, minoxidil does not affect hormones either.

Can I use minoxidil before a workout?

Yes you can use minoxidil before a workout. It’s even safe to apply it right before working out, as this will not have adverse effects on your health.

Yet, like previously said, it’s not advised to apply minoxidil right before working out since sweating can dilute minoxidil which makes absorption harder. It can also rinse off the minoxidil.

However, it’s safe and sound to apply minoxidil before a workout.

Should I use minoxidil before or after exercise?

While you can use minoxidil before a workout, it’s best to wait and use minoxidil after exercising.

If you do decide to apply before exercising, then make sure to wait at least 30 minutes to give the product some time to dry and get absorbed.

The main reason why it’s optimal to apply after working out is that people tend to sweat during, and shortly after working out. This sweating can cause the minoxidil to become diluted, or get cleansed. This is an especially annoying concern for those who sweat profusely when exercising.

Even more, working out increases blood flow, which can cause the nutrients of the minoxidil to get absorbed more readily. That’s why I advise applying after exercising, and when your body is done sweating to cool off.

Is it OK to sweat with minoxidil?

Sweating after, or when you’re applying minoxidil will have no negative effects regarding your health.

However, there’s a catch.

When you start sweating after you’ve applied minoxidil is when the minoxidil can become diluted, or even washed off completely.

Applying when you’re still sweating is also ill-advised for the exact same reason. Dilution and rinsing off can also happen when you’re applying to a sweaty skin.

Final note

It’s safe to exercise with minoxidil. You can even use minoxidil before working out.

However, it’s not advocated to apply minoxidil right before training since it can dilute, or wash off said product due to sweating. The same can be said about applying when you’re already sweaty. Obviously, this will reduce its effectiveness.
